Several well-known names of the artificial-intelligence community have launched an initiative against autonomous weapons that select and eliminate targets without human intervention. The details of the initiative can be read in this open letter, which everyone is invited to sign (there are over 20.000 signatories at the time of this post).
SLAIS has joined this initiative. It has first organized a panel discussion on the topic together with ACM Slovenija, Slovene Society Informatika and Slovenian Association for Cognitive Science. The panel took place at the Information Society multiconference, was well attended and had a lively discussion. The four organizations have now also addressed a letter to the Slovenian prime minister, asking for support for this cause.
