Lecture: Design Optimization and Design Exploration in Space Engineering

You are kindly invited to a lecture to be given on Monday, 9 April 2018, at 14.00 in the main lecture hall of the Jožef Stefan Institute, Jamova cesta 39, Ljubljana, by Prof. Akira Oyama from Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and University of Tokyo.

Title: Design Optimization and Design Exploration in Space Engineering

Abstract: Akira Oyama has been engaged in design optimization and design exploration in Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. In this presentation, he will explain how design optimization and design exploration methods are used in space engineering and present some applications such as rocket engine design, spacecraft trajectory design, and flame deflector design of rocket launch site.

Akira Oyama’s CV: Akira Oyama is associate professor at Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, University of Tokyo in Japan. He received his Ph.D. in aerospace engineering at Tohoku University in Japan in 2000. He worked for NASA Glenn research center from 2000 to 2003. He works for Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency since then. His research interests include aerospace engineering, aerodynamics, and design optimization. He has published 140 conference papers and 42 refereed journal articles.
